FreightOps

The operation

Dispatch, driver paperwork and settlement usually live in three different systems. Every load that crosses a seam gets re-keyed, and proof of delivery lands days after the money should already have moved.

FreightOps

Production-grade operations software for trucking companies that need dispatch control, driver execution, compliance review, communication, billing, and payouts in one system.

Website: www.freightops.app

Project Overview

FreightOps is a full-scale freight operations platform built around the actual lifecycle of a load, not a narrow slice of the business. It covers load creation, assignment, driver actions, trip progress, document collection, review, and payout readiness inside a single product experience.

The product is designed for multiple user roles working in the same operating environment. Dispatchers, company managers, owners, platform admins, and drivers each have role-specific workflows while still sharing the same operational context. That makes the platform useful for day-to-day execution instead of becoming another disconnected admin tool.

FreightOps load management dashboard
Core Workflow Coverage

FreightOps supports the full path from planning to payment:

  • Create and manage loads with structured operational detail
  • Assign drivers and equipment to active work
  • Let drivers review, accept, and execute assigned trips
  • Collect receipts, documents, and proof-of-delivery assets
  • Review submitted evidence before moving work into financial processing
  • Track completed jobs into payout readiness and driver payment workflows

One of the strongest parts of the product is that the workflow does not stop when a load is assigned. The system continues through execution, accountability, review, and downstream financial actions, which is where a lot of logistics software starts to break apart.

Load Intake and Dispatch

Load creation starts with structured intake and a dispatch-focused workspace instead of a generic form. That keeps the operational data consistent from the moment work enters the platform and makes it easier to move from planning into assignment without losing detail.

Load detail review
Driver Workflow and Execution

Driver execution is treated as a first-class workflow. Managers can assign work, review driver readiness, and track past activity, while drivers can move through trip-related actions inside the same operational system.

Operations, Finance, and Communication

The platform combines operations tooling with the financial systems that trucking companies actually need to run the business.

On the company side, FreightOps supports subscriptions, invoicing visibility, discounts, billing administration, and payout review. On the driver side, it handles payout readiness, payout requests, and the connection between verified trip completion and payment flow. Stripe and Stripe Connect integration make the platform work both as a SaaS product and as a money-movement system.

The communication layer is equally important. FreightOps includes real-time chat with media support, operational context, and automatic translation for multilingual teams. That matters in trucking operations where dispatchers, managers, and drivers need to stay aligned while work is in motion, even when teams do not share the same primary language.

Multilingual operational chat
Compliance and AI-Assisted Intake

Receipts, trip documents, proof-of-work files, and other uploads move through structured review flows instead of being treated like loose attachments. The platform includes AI-assisted document processing to turn uploaded material into more usable operational data, reducing manual review overhead and speeding up compliance-oriented workflows.

Document review workflow

This is practical AI, not decorative AI. The value is in making document-heavy operations faster, more consistent, and easier to audit.

Architecture and Delivery

FreightOps demonstrates the architecture needed for real business software:

  • Multi-tenant company scoping
  • Role-based access across platform admins, company owners, admins, and drivers
  • Protected APIs and permission-aware middleware
  • Subscription-aware access control
  • Background processing for notifications and other asynchronous work
  • Redis-backed infrastructure for responsive system behavior

Administrative and operational support tools also matter here. The platform includes account-level file controls, invite-code based onboarding flows, and fleet record management so support and configuration work stay inside the same product environment.

The frontend also reflects the product depth. Different roles see different navigation structures, priorities, and operational tasks depending on what they are responsible for. That balance of backend complexity, role-based UX, payments, compliance, and real-time collaboration makes FreightOps a strong example of complex business-critical application design.

Outcome

FreightOps shows the ability to build software around an end-to-end operating model instead of isolated screens. It brings together logistics workflows, financial handling, multilingual communication, document review, and tenant-aware access control into a single product that feels built for actual trucking operations.

Live Amazon SP-API and Keepa data feed one margin engine, and the decision carries forward into purchase orders, vendor and prep-center management, invoicing, and a restock dashboard the whole team works from.

Detail

The operation

A seller buys against a spreadsheet that is already stale. Fees move, Keepa history sits in another tab, and the reorder point is a guess — so capital lands in the wrong SKUs while the good ones stock out.

Outdoor-gear manufacturing

HammockGear

Project lead · System architecture · UI/UX · 9 months

Badge-and-PIN login at every station, barcode-driven item tracking, station-specific screens for Down, Shipping and QC, a resolution page that assigns fault and records the fix — and a chat-based reporting tool that turns a plain-English question into SQL, retiring the old filter builder.

Detail

The operation

A floor running on paper. Work moves between stations on a printed sheet, a rush order is only rush if someone notices the highlighter, and when an item comes back wrong nobody can say which station it went wrong at.

🧩 Project Summary

We built a custom internal toolset for HammockGear, a manufacturer of high-end outdoor gear. The goal: eliminate paper-based workflows and boost transparency across production, order fulfillment, inventory, and issue resolution.

This system ties together:

  • Production task assignment by workstation
  • Order and stock visibility
  • Barcode-driven item tracking
  • Problem detection and accountability assignment
  • Data filtering and reporting for operational analysis

🔍 Key Functional Areas
📦 Order & Inventory Management
  • Order List: Pulled from BigCommerce with sorting, rush prioritization, status indicators, and refund tools.
  • Detailed Order Pages: Staff can update items, adjust shipping dates, apply refunds, and add/edit instructions.
  • Stock Items: Editable stock entries, barcode printing, template-based stock generation.
🏭 Production Workflow
  • Employee Station Views: Each employee logs in via badge and PIN, views their assigned queue, and scans items to begin work.
  • Rush Highlighting: Red status indicators on both order and task queues.
  • Workstation-specific Layouts: Adapted UIs for Down, Shipping, and QC.
🛠️ Problem Resolution
  • Central resolution page assigns fault across employees.
  • Tracks resolution notes, percentages of responsibility, and restocking status.
  • Tied into live problem detection from workstation UI.
🗺️ Warehouse Map
  • Live heatmap of employee activity.
  • Shows active stations, idle states, and items in progress.
  • Clickable drilldowns for issues or job details.
📊 Reporting Tools
  • AI-powered chatbot: Replaces manual filters with a natural-language assistant that converts user prompts into SQL queries.
  • Context-aware conversation: Users can ask follow-up questions without restating context — the bot keeps track of the conversation thread.
  • Instant analysis: The assistant runs the query, summarizes key insights, and returns both the data and an interpretation.
  • No filter-building UI: The previous filter builder was retired in favor of a faster, chat-based interface.

Meeting Room Overview
Shared-resource scheduling

Room-Sync

Node.js API architecture & access logic · 6 weeks

Room-level access through user groups, recurrence generated as virtual “ghost” occurrences instead of stored rows, approval routed by the booker’s access level, and overlap prevention that runs before anything is committed.

Detail

The operation

Shared rooms fail on the exceptions: the standing weekly, the group that may see a room but not book it, the block of dates nobody may touch, and the two bookings that overlap because the check ran after the write.

This project is a fully featured meeting room booking and scheduling platform designed for complex, real-world use cases where room access, recurring meetings, and approval workflows are essential.

🧠 Core Idea

The platform solves the classic problem of scheduling conflicts, visibility, and approval for organizations that need room-level access control through user groups and permissions.

💡 Features
  • Role-based room visibility using RoomGroup + GroupUser relationships
  • One-off and recurring meetings (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly)
  • Access control down to room level — who can view, book, cancel
  • Approval workflows: auto-approve for full-access, pending for limited-access
  • Ghost/fake recurring meetings to preview future occurrences
  • Meeting overlap prevention
  • Cancel, update, or modify individual or all recurring meetings
  • Special permissions override normal access rules
  • Support for blocked times (e.g., maintenance)
🛠️ How It Works

Users are assigned to groups, which in turn are linked to rooms. These group-room bindings dictate visibility and booking rights.

  • GroupUser → assigns users to groups
  • RoomGroup → assigns groups to rooms
  • MeetingRecurrence → controls repeat frequency and scope
  • SpecialPermission → gives users access to individual meetings outside normal permissions

Admins bypass all restrictions. All others require group membership or special permission to view, book, or modify meetings.

💬 Example Use Case

Imagine a university with shared conference rooms:

  • Professors can book only in rooms assigned to their department.
  • Admins can view and manage all bookings.
  • Facilities can block rooms during renovations.
  • Recurring faculty meetings are automatically scheduled but remain editable.
  • Students can see available rooms but cannot book them.

All these are supported out-of-the-box.

✅ Smart Booking

Every booking is checked for:

  • Room-level group access
  • Time conflicts (existing or future repeating events)
  • Blocked periods
  • Meeting status (Approved / Waiting on Approval)
  • Overlap with virtual/ghost meetings
Conflict Detection System
🔁 Recurrence System

Meetings are not stored in the database indefinitely. Instead, ghost meetings are dynamically generated from recurrence rules to visualize future slots. This reduces storage load and makes UI rendering flexible.

🧠 Tech Stack
  • Node.js: Core application engine
  • Sequelize ORM: Data modeling and querying
  • PostgreSQL: (or MySQL) database layer
  • Express: Routing and middleware
  • date-fns: Recurrence and date utilities

📈 Result

The system is highly extensible, easy to plug into an existing frontend (e.g., React/Next.js), and ready for real-world scheduling complexity. It removes friction from managing access-sensitive bookings across teams, departments, or organizations.

🤝 Future Add-ons
  • Notification/Reminders
  • OAuth + SSO
  • iCal export
  • GraphQL integration
  • Public booking forms

Construction & trades

ConstructionOps

Full-stack architecture and development

One operations platform for general contractors, remodelers and specialty trades, built around AI capture in the field: a contractor walks a site, talks naturally and snaps photos bound to what they just said, and the system turns that into a structured quote and scope that carries through job costing and billing records. It produces records and documents — by design it never processes or moves money.

Detail

The operation

A construction company runs the estimate in one place, the schedule in another, the receipts in a shoebox and the crew’s hours in a text message. The person who walked the site is the only one who knows what was agreed, and by the time it is written down the job has already moved.

The intervention

One operations platform for general contractors, remodelers and specialty trades, built around AI capture in the field: a contractor walks a site, talks naturally and snaps photos bound to what they just said, and the system turns that into a structured quote and scope that carries through job costing and billing records. It produces records and documents — by design it never processes or moves money.

What is in it

Field capture
Voice and photo capture on site, with the photos bound to what was being said, turned into a structured quote, a scope and the follow-up questions still outstanding.
Quoting and bidding
Quotes with revisions and templates, area pricing and live price lookups, bid packages and bid levelling with a subcontractor bid portal, and a public no-login estimator a company can embed on its own website.
Running the job
Daily logs, checklists and punch lists, a schedule, progress photos, job events and configurable pipeline stages, reusable job templates, and client updates shared out of the same record.
Visual site plans
Multi-unit developments managed as a tree of sub-projects on a mobile-friendly site plan, with rooms drawn inside a building carrying their own steps, punch list, photos, costs and deliveries, plan markup, and scoped deep-link sharing to contractors.
Costs and billing records
Receipts and expenses with line items, purchase orders, vendor bills, change orders and allowances, one shared cost divvied across several jobs, invoices, and AIA pay applications over a schedule of values. Money is DECIMAL, never float, and totals are recomputed from their inputs so a stored figure cannot go stale.
Workforce
1099 contractor onboarding, GPS clock in and out, timesheets, crews and dispatch, certifications and compliance, and a worker portal — with no payouts anywhere in it.
Compliance
Lien waivers and lien deadlines, permits and inspections, RFIs and submittals, and service tickets.
Copilot
An in-app assistant with read-scoped tools over the company’s own data. A tool disappears from the assistant when its feature is switched off, so it can never answer from an area the company has turned off.
Tenancy and live updates
Every query and every broadcast is scoped by company. An unscoped broadcast is withheld and logged rather than sent. Mutations push to subscribed views over a websocket instead of waiting for a refresh.
Plans, toggles and reach
Four plan tiers with entitlements enforced on the server, a per-company switch for every non-core area so a one-person company is not taxed by features it does not use, an iOS and Android shell over the same frontend, and seven languages.

Stock Scanner

Full-stack architecture and development

Node services behind one gateway push a live grid over a websocket, mark the patterns they recognise, and label every figure with the feed it came from — an unavailable measurement stays blank and a stale row is drawn as stale. A second, deliberately separate product lets a scheduled agent trade a linked brokerage account under rules the account holder sets. The two share no database and are not wired together, so a scanner alert can never become a purchase. The trading half has not yet placed an order against a live broker, and the repository says so on every line.

Detail

The operation

Watching a list of stocks for unusual activity is a full-time job done badly by hand, and the tools that do it tend to blur two very different things: a number that was measured, and a number that was missing. A blank cell filled in with a substitute is worse than no tool at all when money is on the other end of it.

The intervention

Node services behind one gateway push a live grid over a websocket, mark the patterns they recognise, and label every figure with the feed it came from — an unavailable measurement stays blank and a stale row is drawn as stale. A second, deliberately separate product lets a scheduled agent trade a linked brokerage account under rules the account holder sets. The two share no database and are not wired together, so a scanner alert can never become a purchase. The trading half has not yet placed an order against a live broker, and the repository says so on every line.

What is in it

The live grid
A chosen list of stocks, not the whole market, updating in place over a live connection: gap against the previous close, relative volume against the stock’s own normal, momentum in dollars per minute, and change over the last five and ten minutes.
Nine named patterns
Six built on shares outstanding combined with unusual volume, and three squeeze patterns — up 10% in ten minutes, up 5% in five, and a new 52-week high.
Trading halts
Exchange-paused stocks are flagged from the exchange’s own public feed, and when that feed is unreachable the app says so rather than reporting that nothing is halted.
Provenance on every number
Each figure is labelled with the feed it was measured on, so a number taken from a partial feed is never mistaken for a full-market one.
Absent is not zero
A genuinely unavailable measurement is left blank rather than substituted, and a row whose prices have stopped arriving is drawn as visibly stale instead of showing an old price as current.
Alerts and personalisation
An alert when a stock starts matching a pattern, with a per-person mute so silencing a noisy ticker affects only you, plus saved column layouts and saved pattern sets.
Backtest
A pattern run over past daily price history to show what it would have flagged. It uses full-market historical data — broader than the live grid’s — and the page says so, so confidence in one is never carried over to the other.
Sign-in and the invite gate
Hosted sign-in through Auth0, so no password is stored by the app, plus an invite code checked on the server on every request rather than in the browser.
Broker credentials
A linked account is authorised through the broker’s own approval screen — no token or password is ever pasted into the app — and the stored credential is encrypted, with tampering detected rather than silently decrypting to something wrong.
Risk set by the account holder
A conservative, moderate or aggressive risk profile sets the sizing bounds in one choice; the percentage of capital the owner accepts losing is a hard ceiling that closes positions rather than a notification.
A schedule that knows the calendar
The agent does not fire on weekends, on holidays or after an early close, and refuses to run past the last year its holiday table covers rather than guessing.
Practice mode
The whole flow runs against simulated fills with no broker link at all, so nothing has to be connected to real money to be watched.
Separation by construction
The scanner holds no brokerage connection and cannot place an order; the trader never reads scanner signal and never writes market data. They use different databases, with no keys crossing between them.
